Hair Extensions, Before and After

I’m no stranger to longing for long, luscious locks. My hair has always been fairly fine, with natural wave, and not a lot of volume.

I remember looking at magazines (before IG) and wondering how celebrities and models had the FULLEST, LONGEST hair ever. Maybe that’s why they’re famous, I thought to myself, because they have hair from the gods.

I now know that celebrities have been using hair extensions FOR YEARS. Like years and years, even before they gained traction with the public. And you can bet your favorite blogger or influencer has rocked extensions before too.

I borrowed my sister’s set of clip-in extensions my senior year of college and FELL IN LOVE. Just a few clips later and BOOM, volume and length like a mermaid goddess. I instantly felt my confidence soar. There’s just something about that little extra length and thickness that works wonders on a human being’s appearance.

My photographer friend Danielle and I always agree, extensions are one of our favorite beauty accessories for a photo shoot. They enhance any model’s look and can really add to a shot.

And, perhaps even more importantly, they enhance every day life! Great hair can make anyone feel good, no matter how they’re dressed or how many breakouts they may have on their chin (ugh, the worst).

Naturally I was over the moon when Cashmere Hair reached out to partner with me! I was already a BIG fan of clip-in extensions. I sent a few photos of my current hair color and received their recommended color match, Bombshell Brunette. I mean, the name alone is enough to make me want to buy them!

They arrived packaged super organized and sturdy and I was able to tell from the sample swatch of hair on top that the color was PERFECT. Pulling them out of the packaging I immediately felt how soft and thick the hair was.

I couldn’t wait to clip them in! I am not very talented when it comes to styling my hair, I know one type of braid and typically only do loose curls when fixing my hair. I say this to let you know that you don’t need to be skilled in the slightest to get these babies in.

Start by taking a wider weft of hair and creating a parted section at the base of your head. Clip the first weft in just beneath the part you created, clipping from one side to the other until all the weft’s clips are secure to your hair. Apply 2-3 rows of hair wefts stacked on top of one another along the back of your head, depending on how much space you have. I almost never use all of the extensions in the pack, but more power to you if you can get them all in!

Once you have your wider pieces secured around the back of your head, move to the sides of your head, between your ears and brow bone. Create another part, always keeping a layer of hair over top of the extension clip and add in the narrower wefts.

Some people tease the hair over top for extra coverage. It really only takes a try or two to get the hang of it and you can always take them out and re-place them if they feel off.

One of my biggest fears is the extensions poking through around the crown of my head and showing, but Cashmere Hair’s extensions are so easily concealed. It’s not an issue AT ALL.
