Taylor Toro

About

Hello, my name is Taylor. Thank you so much for popping your head in my little corner of the digital universe.
A little about me:
I’m 5’5 and 3/4 of quirk and wit. Catch me in heels and you’ll swear I’m 6 feet tall. Beyond a love for writing and a fascination with height, I enjoy exploring my new-ish landscape of San Diego, CA (4 years and counting in the land of surf, sand, and sun!).
In September of 2014 I made the rather abrupt decision to A) Put in my two weeks notice at a corporate job and B) Move from St. Louis, MO (land of toasted raviolis and that big Arch thingy) to sunny San Diego.
It was a terrifying compilation of events that unfolded in whirlwind of “furniture for sale” Craigslist posts, goodbye happy hours, and lots of instantaneous and unpredictable bouts of tears. I was changing my entire life in the span of a month.
Friends, let me tell you, I’m so glad I did. Comfort is the bane of our existence as humans. It tricks us into sticking it out, into staying, and ultimately into settling.
Now sometimes comfort and true happiness go hand in hand and there is no need to pierce your nipple and pack your bags and move to Bali. But other times comfort and fear of the unknown are what holds us back from truly pursuing a life we are proud to call our own.
I had accepted a particular path for my life. I could see all the way down that rose dotted trail. There were no twists or turns where I couldn’t see where the path would take me. And in a sickening way, I liked that. It was known, it was familiar. But something in my heart whispered, often times while I lay awake at night or after a few glasses of wine.
Are you truly happy? Is your soul flying because of the kind of tomorrow you are going to greet in the morning?
One day it just clicked. And so I changed my stars.
Things are by no means perfect out here in San Diego. There are sharks and my Spanish is lacking. But for the most part I’m completely in love with my life here. And not seeing around the next bend in the road?
PERFECTION.
Update: I met the love of my life here in San Diego. We’re married and cramped in an adorable condo a mile from the beach and sometimes I use my crockpot.
Also, I have the best job in the world. I work for Tony Robbins!
