Getting in The Spirit, Halloween Fashion

October 26, 2015
With fall – things seem to transpire just a little bit differently than other times of the year. There’s a buzz in the air – an energy. It’s something tangible yet you can’t quite put your finger on it.
One ventures outside and they’re caught in a rush of crisp autumn wind that blows your curls out nice and soft and makes your step just a little more brisk. You feel the knit of your latest over-sized sweater against still bronzed skin.
After all, summer was just a season ago, though it feels like a lifetime because you’re caught up in pumpkin spice everything, fall booties, plaid garments, and the most scared of all autumnal rituals: finding your Halloween costume. Yes, fall is here, may the basic white girls rejoice.
This little number was put together for less than $15. The shorts are a pair from several seasons ago, the top was a $12.99 purchase fromย Target and the pumpkin accessory was found in the dollar section of Target. Wall-a! Spooktacular fashion.

I’ve always had a particular affection towards fall. So much so that I tried to make everyone call it autumn for a good while, simply because it sounded more beautiful and therefore fitting for this glorious passage of time nestled between beach house rentals and Christmas carols.

When I was in elementary school I would pour over the pages of costume catalogs that came in the mail. The concept that for one magical night I could be anything I wanted was so enchanting to me.

My imagination ran wild with visions of witches, floating jack-o-lantern heads, and full moons that winked down at you from velvety back skies. Even as I type I have a pumpkin candle flickering and whispering smoke in the corner of the room.

Living in a balmy beach town, shorts were a viable option for this outfit. I added knee high boots (also from several seasons ago) to give it a more fall-ish look. If you’re in a cooler climate, pair the top with black leggings, booties, and a jacket for a look that’s both warm and chic.ย

Happy Halloweening!

What is everyone dressing up as this year? Do you embrace holiday themed fashion? I could use some more ideas ๐Ÿ™‚

Quick update! I styled this top with a red blazer, ripped jeans, and black booties for the office. There are so many ways to dress this top up or down, I’m loving it!

P.S I have cat ears on! Can you spot them?

I always love your sense of style Taylor!!! And look at your knack for putting cute outfits together on the cheap! I have no idea what I'm going to dress up as this year, but two of my favorite costumes from past years were a saloon/flapper girl, and a peacock! Both are so fun to accessorize ๐Ÿ™‚
